Married Monday: Being A Proverbs 31 Wife Part 1

   What does the bible say in Proverbs about being a wife, or a godly woman? This is for wives but if you are single and live on your own this can still apply to keeping your house and living your life.
   Today I will show you the scripture by section then break it down.  From New Living Translation Proverbs 31:10-21.

A Wife of Noble Character
10 [b]Who can find a virtuous and capable wife?
    She is more precious than rubies.
11 Her husband can trust her,
    and she will greatly enrich his life.
12 She brings him good, not harm,
    all the days of her life.

   This section isn’t too complicated. A Proverbs 31 wife will be trust worthy and bring good to her husband.  A good virtuous wife will be a blessing to any man. She is worth more than a substansial amount of money because she provides her husband with a sense of security.
   This one is simple to live out as well never intentionally do anything to lose his trust or to hurt him in any way.

13 She finds wool and flax
    and busily spins it.
14 She is like a merchant’s ship,
    bringing her food from afar.
15 She gets up before dawn to prepare breakfast for her household and plan   the day’s work for her servant girls.

   Again not to complicated when you break it down.  She gets up early and prepares for the day as well as makes a meal for her family.  She is resourceful and finds materials for the things she needs.
   To live this out does not mean you have to get up bright and early every day and make your family breakfast or that you have servants to help you( even if that would be nice), you could wake up early though. Really here something you should be considering is being prepared for the next day or if your up early the day ahead having a plan for the time you have. Not sleeping in until noon if you’re a stay at home wife or mom. Being proactive for things that will need to be done. As well as making sure your husband has something to eat before he’s at work.

16 She goes to inspect a field and buys it;
    with her earnings she plants a vineyard.
17 She is energetic and strong,
    a hard worker.
18 She makes sure her dealings are profitable;
    her lamp burns late into the night.

   The proverbs 31 wife is smart and knows the business world.  She is not afraid to use her skills to help provide for her family. She is not afraid of work and knows that she is doing well and works long hours to ensure she is profitable.
   Living this out is a little more open to your interpretation. You could be working and investing and getting a profit from your work to help provide for the family. This could be seen as working in the home and being diligent with the way you spend money. Overall do not be lazy and uninvested in the world around you.

19 Her hands are busy spinning thread,
    her fingers twisting fiber.
20 She extends a helping hand to the poor
    and opens her arms to the needy.
21 She has no fear of winter for her household,
    for everyone has warm[c] clothes.

   The Proverbs 31 Wife works to ensure that those in her care have what they need including clothing. She makes them herself and knows that they are good and doesn’t fear the winter for she knows that those in her care will be protected. She also is kind to the needy, her understanding for the need to care goes outside of her own home and extends to the people in the community.
   Living this out is not to complicated either it can be done in simple ways. Helping the needy, serving at a soup kitchen, working at your local food bank there are many ways to have a heart to help the less fortunate and to make them feel the love of Christ. Ensuring your family or husband has their basic needs. You don’t have to make all the clothing but you can be sure to purchase good quality products so that you know they will meet the needs of your family.

   That was the first half and next week I will go over the second half. The biggest misconception of the Proverbs 31 wife is that she is perfect and that you have to be perfect in order to even try to do the things she did, and that it is not possible to be a proverbs 31 wife in our culture today. These are both wrong. You do not have to be perfect to strive to be a wife that resembles closer to what the Bible calls you to be. It is probably not possible to do everything that it says a Proverbs 31 Wife does, because something’s in today’s time just don’t make sense. That is why I shared some examples of ways to live each section out to get you thinking. But the overall spirit of her is possible to attain by trying your best.

   Next week I will do the second half and go into a little more detail on what Her spirit is. As well as some links to other great post about being a Proverbs 31 Wife. I would love some feedback on what you think of this post. How do you try to get closer to being the describe Wife?
