Stop Comparing Yourself to Others

Let’s start with a definition so we are all on the same page.

Compare:
: to say that (something) is similar to something else
: to look at (two or more things) closely in order to see what is similar or different about them or in order to decide which one is better
: to be as good or as bad as something else : to be on the same level or in the same category as something else

So for our purpose we will be using compare in terms of its second definition. Seeing if two or more things are similar or different to decide which is better. And what exactly am I saying not to compare; our lives, our things, our children, our marriages, our looks, everything that involves ourselves versus someone else.  Comparing your life to others does nothing positive for you. It will more than likely have a negative effect on how you feel about some part of your life.

Married Monday: Social Media and Your Marriage

Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and Instagram are all social media and most everyone has an account on at least one of them.  71% of all adults online use Facebook,  23% use Twitter, 26% are on Instagram and 28% are using Pinterest.  That is a lot of time that people are spending looking at others people’s lives from the computer screen.  Facebook is sited by name as a reason on 20% of divorce petitions. Why is this? I personally believe is that many people cannot understand that just because you’re behind your computer screen does not mean you can do whatever you want, they don’t see it as real life.  I will focus mostly on Facebook because it in general is where the most problems lie but this can all be true for any form of social media.

Married Monday: Comparing the 1950's Wife to Today's Wife

Today I want to talk a little about what being a housewife meant in the 50s and how it compares to today’s wife.  These were taken from a 1950s Home Economics Textbook in a section called “The Good Wife’s Guide”.  For each of their guidelines I will share a take on it in terms of being a wife today.

Fun read on a good wife in the 1950s and comparing it to now

Just In Time For Valentine's Day

Tomorrow is Valentine's Day, at Pre K we had our party yesterday and the schools are having theirs this afternoon. Now while we don't celebrate with extravagant gifts, we do enjoy a day together with great food. I am looking forward to a long weekend with my hubby and a day of hanging out, going on a hike, eating at a new restaurant and a home cooked meal with a movie.

I think the day is overly commercialized and superficial. I think it is fun for kids to have a day to talk about love and friendship. I like the day as an extra day to shower your spouse or significant other with love. That does not mean you need to spend a lot of money, you just need some heart felt gestures. Like a home cooked meal or simply just hanging out together.

Here are a few Valentine's post I did last month. Yes you still have time to do these! Enjoy ( Click the Picture)

Baked Chicken with Caramelized Onions and Sautéed Mushrooms

As I mentioned last week in my Things I love Post we ate this meal in some form every night last week. We loved it, we did it for a couple reasons one being trying to have healthier foods and control portions, and the other is it is relatively inexpensive or a weeks worth of food.

We used bone in skin on thighs and they were so moist and paired greatly with the sweetness of the onions and the richness of the mushrooms.  Serve with various different vegetables or a side salad.

Married Monday: Being Friends With Your Spouse

Married Monday Spouse Best Friend
It’s more like Married Tuesday this week but that doesn’t sound as good. We went home for the weekend, it was relatively last minute and I did not have a chance to get this post wrote in time, but it was worth it we had a great time being home with our parents.

You love your spouse, we all do, but do you like them?, the majority of the time? Well I sure hope you like them, being in like is quite important I believe, because that means you want to spend time with them and be friends. Yup that’s right you should be friends with your husband or wife, shocker right. I think though people forget this and go on letting day to day life get in the way and soon they are just roommates that do love each other but don’t really connect on a friendship level.  Being in that place is not somewhere I want to be, why? Because I want to be connected to my husband always and make an effort to quickly fix it if I feel that friendship slipping away.

5 Things I’m Loving Right Now

5 Things I'm Loving Right Now Married and Hungry

Every once in a while I will be sharing 5 things Friday where I share what I’m loving at the moment.
  1. I have found this amazing app thanks to a great friend. If you’re a woman looking for a great app to have the Bible and devotionals on your phone then look no further. She Speaks Truth is a great free app that has free devotionals as well as some paid ones. They vary in length, but the ones that I have tried are well written and detailed. First you see the scriptures for that day, then the devotional. For me it is the perfect amount of guidance that I have been looking for, and some great insights. Strawberry Banana Oatmeal Bake

As I mentioned last week we are working on eating a good healthy breakfast each morning and it’s much easier if it is already ready to go. A couple weeks ago we had these breakfast burritos, and last week we tried an oatmeal bake with fruit.

Valentine’s Day Gift Ideas for Him

   Valentine's Day Gifts for Him

Valentine’s Day is getting close; how it is already February I’m not sure I feel like December never happened.  With the day approaching I started to think about what exactly I wanted to get Hubby this year. We don’t typically give each other a large gift for Valentines, we do though have a nice dinner together, watch a movie and just enjoy our time together.  I have been known to give food as a gift most years that we’ve been together, such as cupcakes, cookies, pies and other things that I thought he would like. I have gotten flowers, a teddy bear, cards and possibly a necklace (we can’t remember the occasion it was given to me).
