This book was sent to me by blog for books in exchange for a review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
First things I love the layout of this book. As someone who loves to cook and at some point wants to write a cookbook of some sort it is fun to see how different books are organized. This one is split into the 12 different cooking methods that they are featuring. The goal of the American Heart
Each method has 12 -14 recipes in them all very well written. These heart healthy methods are; slow cooking, microwaving, blending, grilling, stir-frying, braising, stewing, steaming, poaching, broiling, roasting, and baking. The microwave section at first surprised me, I never really think to cook a meal in there, but they have some pretty good selection with multiple soups and even a stuffed apple recipe, yum.
The book also has some valuable resources. There are tips on living a healthy lifestyle. These are some basic tips but I appreciate that they added them to the beginning of a healthy cookbook. Also in the beginning are tips on shopping and cooking smart. The resource section in the back has an awesome list of foods that should be in a heart-healthy pantry. Back there are also ways to be safe with each of the cooking methods and general food safety. Also, something that everyone should know or be able to access quickly is a serving guide, what a serving equals and how many you need in a day. I love that they included that in this book.
Overall I really enjoyed this book and can’t wait to try out the recipes. The pesto made in the blender is calling my name! I give Grill It, Braise It, Broil it a 4 stars. The only complaint I have is that there are only 8 pictures of the dishes. I prefer to see a picture of each recipe, most recipes, or for the pages to have a bit of color. The co
ver and the pictures that are there are very well done.
