Married Monday: Play Games Together

What do you do after dinner? After cleaning up and you are ready to relax do you hang out with your husband? Or do you go to your different screens and do your own thing? I know many of us go and watch our tv shows, check Facebook, or play games instead of spending some good one on one time. Why wouldn't we though it's easy, it's entertaining, something to do when you want to unwind and relax, instead of the harder task of finding things that you both like to do, something to talk about, something new to do.

How about setting up a game night for the two of you. You know the old fashion ones, where you turn off the tv, the Xbox, the computers, and put the phones down grab a board or some cards and play a game. I personally love board games and I have gotten into playing some card games. I try to be good at strategy games but Hubby is much better at them than I like to admit. We also have played trivia games and for Christmas, I gave him a MadLibs that has been quite entertaining the last few nights. Here are some of my favorite games and ideas that I have seen around the web.

Each game is linked so that you can learn more about the games. They are affiliate links and if you choose to make a purchase from them I will get a small commission with no extra fee to you.

Favorite Board Games

Checkers- I have always loved playing checkers and have enjoyed playing it many times with Hubby.

Scrabble- The classic word game. If you and your husband are good spellers this can get competitive and is lots of fun. I am not a good speller so I end up with short words, but I enjoy playing.

Aggravation/Sorry- Is another old favorite that made its way into married life. Not Hubby's first pick to play but it is a fun one to play. It can just get very aggravating ;)

Battleship- a game of luck and skill. This one is a favorite from childhood but still is fun to play as an adult. (this links to a Star Wars themed set, how fun is that.)

Monopoly- We can't leave out this classic game. The main reason for it not being first on my list is that this can get a bit heated at our house it also seems to last for hours. But if you are not too competitive this is a fun game to play together or even as a family. You can also get the game in many different themes for your favorite show, my link will take you to a Big Bang Theory board.

Fun Card Games

Many of theses games can be played with 2 people or with a group. We enjoy having double dates at home with friends and playing games.

Uno- a round of Uno doesn't have to take very long and is a good brain break if it's been a long day.

Phase 10- It can be a tricky game but is easy and lots of fun to play with a small group.

Apples to Apples- another fun game to play alone or with other couples. It is fun to try and play something that others would say is the best answer. An adult version of this is Cards Against Humanity, it can get a little strange but is so funny.

Exploding Kittens- A newer game that we got for our game playing friends. The whole point is to not draw a card that makes you explode. It is full of hilarious cards, some strategy and laughing. You can play with two people but it is even better with 3 or 4.

Yahtzee- The fun dice game of luck. I love playing games where it doesn't take to much thinking on my part.

Janga- A fun game of strategy.

So set a date, grab a game, your husband and get to playing! What are some games that you have played together?

  1. I LOVE family game nights!!! Don't be too quick to judge video games, though. We've had a lot of fun over the years with Wii games that get everyone off the couch and moving! Many popular board games like Monopoly and Risk now have video versions which means less to store and no pieces to lose!!!

  2. I NEED that Exploding Kittens game! I am planning on ordering it from Amazon soon. As much as I love cats, I just gotta have it. Some of our favorite games to play are Uno, Go! Go! Go! (it's a card game), Life, and Scrabble.

  3. We never had game night until recently. My kids wanted to start it, so as a family we have game night every few weeks. It is so much fun! I wish we had done it earlier.
