Today I want to share with you a relatively easy craft that
you can make out of something you probably already have. I have been saving all of my glass jars for
the last few months, I wasn’t sure what I used them for but I knew they could
become cute decorating pieces. This very
cute candle holder or vase is made out of an empty Prego sauce jar!
To get started all you need is:
- A jar- any size or kind you want
- Paint- I used the acrylic kind that you find at Wal-Mart or Hobby Lobby for cheap
- Tape- painters or masking tape will work
Directions
- Make the stencil: Take masking tape and make a little block of it. Pull it off, and then use a pre cut heart, cut out the heart of tape. Then just attach it to the jar where you want it.
- Paint: Take the paint and paint around the jar, being careful not to brush into the heart so that the paint doesn’t go under the tape. If doing two colors be sure to wait until where they meet is dry before adding the second color.
- Let dry: Give it about 15 minutes depending on how thick you painted it on.
- Touch up: If you have a led candle it would come in handy now. Find a way to shine light into your jar and anywhere light comes through, paint back over.
See how the light comes through by the red those are the spots you want to fill in. |
- Remove the tape: once everything is dry take off your heart. Be careful the paint may try to come off with the tape. Touch up any lines that don’t look right.
- Fill with candle or flowers or anything else you want. For Valentine’s Day you could even fill it with little notes to your loved one.
I love these because of how simple they are and how cute
they turned out. What do you think, would you make these? Do you decorate for
Valentine’s Day?
